Simple Machine Brewing, a brewery originally intended to be a franchise of Tucson’s Borderlands Brewing, has launched its ‘‘super soft opening’’ in far north Phoenix.
It takes over a former auto body shop on the southwest corner of Seventh Avenue and Deer Valley near the Deer Valley Airport.
Matt Wright and Marshall Norris held a Kickstarter fundraiser earlier this year to open Borderlands Brewing & Public House.
As construction dragged on over the summer, though, the pair decided a franchise agreement with the Tucson brewery would constrain their future plans.
In August, they announced the partnership was off and they would open their own brewery. (Borderlands still plans to open a Valley taproom in 2020 at a site to be determined.)
Simple Machine currently offers two collaboration beers – one with Borderlands and another with Glendale’s Throne Brewing (formerly Dubina).
The other 10 taps are dedicated to Arizona guest beers while Simple Machine can ramps up its own brewing.
For now, no beer or spirits are available. The taproom does not have a kitchen.
