Rosati’s Pizza, which has abruptly closed several Valley locations recently, has now shut down its original Arizona location on the northwest corner of McClintock and Warner in south Tempe.
The family-owned pizzeria chain, which began in Chicago, made its Arizona debut in 1986 with a takeout-only location.
Over the years, franchising has helped the chain to expand to 15 locations in Arizona, 30 in Illinois, and more than 20 in 13 other states.
The chain has struggled with its identity at times. Most Valley locations offer only takeout and delivery, but a few have experimented with a ‘‘pizza pub’’ concept.
In 2006, a bitter dispute within the extended Rosati family led seven members to sue four others over trademarks, franchising, and other issues.
In addition to Tempe, Rosati’s locations recently have closed in Chandler, Ahwatukee, and Peoria.
