Sedona’s Elote Café to close Feb. 22, move to larger location

Elote Café, the award-winning Sedona restaurant from former Valley chef Jeff Smedstad, is moving to larger digs.

The no-reservations Mexican eatery will close its 13-year-old location at the Arabella Hotel Sedona on Saturday, Feb 22, and plans to reopen in early April in a 4,800-square-foot standalone building about a mile and a half away.

The new Elote Café will seat 130 people and feature hand-hammered copper tables, a large patio, and a new state-of-the-art kitchen.

‘‘After 13 years I feel the time is right for Elote to evolve and grow and this move has given me even more appreciation for the cuisine we create as well as a deeper appreciation of where I work and live,’’ Smedstad says.

Before moving to Sedona, Smedstad owned Los Sombreros in Scottsdale.
