Now open: Barrio Queen at Tempe Marketplace

Scottsdale-based Mexican concept Barrio Queen has opened its fifth Valley location – and third in the East Valley – at Tempe Marketplace.

The stand-alone building is located between Ruby Tuesday and Thirsty Lion Gastropub & Grill near the west end of the shopping center’s entertainment section known as The District.

Signature entrees include cochinita pibil (slow-braised pork in achiote sauce), chile verde (green chile pork), and chiles en nogada (stuffed poblano chiles topped with a walnut-based cream sauce, pictured above).

Barrio Queen debuted in Old Town Scottsdale in 2011. It added locations in downtown Gilbert in 2015,  Desert Ridge in northeast Phoenix in 2017, and Queen Creek last month.

The concept has no connection to award-winning Barrio Cafe and Barrio Cafe Gran Reserva in Phoenix.

Barrio Queen is open for lunch and dinner daily.
