Venezia’s Pizzeria in Tempe now delivering pizzas via robotic vehicles

By Jess Harter Tuesday, April 7, 2020

All hail our new robot overlords! Venezia’s Pizzeria‘s flagship location in Tempe has become the first East Valley restaurant to deliver pizza via robotic vehicles.

The locally owned chain, which has locations in Tempe, Gilbert, and Mesa, has teamed up with San Francisco-based Starship Technologies, which makes the robots.

The six-wheeled, electric vehicles, which look a bit like Mars rovers, travel neighborhoods at a pedestrian pace and can maneuver around people and obstacles within a four-mile radius of the restaurant.

Customers place orders with an app, and the robot sends a text when it arrives. The text includes a code that unlocks the storage compartment so customers can retrieve their order.

See the robots in action here.
