Kavala Restaurant & Cafe, which combines two popular Mediterranean cuisines ‘‘by cooking Greek dishes the Italian way,’’ has opened on the southeast corner of McQueen and Elliot in northwest Gilbert.
It takes over the strip-mall space formerly home to 1455 Grill, which closed last June.
Signature dishes include pastichio béchamel (a ‘‘Greek lasagna’’ with penne pasta, minced beef, creamy béchamel sauce, and cheese) and turley stew (a no-meat vegetable stew served with saffron rice).
The menu also offers kebabs, shawarma, lamb burgers, wraps, and pasta dishes.
Kavala is open from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.
