To slow the spread of the covid-19 virus in Arizona, the state’s bars will be closed at 8 p.m. tonight under a new executive order issued today by Gov. Doug Ducey.
The order mandates the closure of bars, indoor gyms, indoor movie theaters, water parks, and tubing operators for at least 30 days. Such businesses only received four hours’ notice before the closure goes into effect.
Unlike his restaurant and bar closure order in March, Ducey’s new order specifically applies to establishments operating with a Series 6 (aka “full bar”) or Series 7 (aka “beer and wine”) license.
Bars with a Series 6 or 7 license may continue to sell alcohol through takeout or delivery.
Most restaurants that serve alcohol operate under a Series 12 (aka “restaurant”) license and aren’t affected by the new order.
