Detroit Coney Grill to take over ex-Steak ’n Shake in downtown Tempe

By Jess Harter Wednesday, August 26, 2020

Detroit Coney Grill, a 7-year-old hot dog and burger shop, is opening its fourth Valley location in downtown Tempe.

It’s taking over the former Steak ’n Shake space on the northeast corner of Mill and Seventh Street.

Detroit Coney Grill offers a number of Motor City favorites, including its namesake Detroit-style coneys, Better Made chips, Faygo soda, and Sanders Bumpy Cakes.

Detroit Coney Grill debuted near the northwest corner of Hardy and Broadway in Tempe in 2013 and added locations in downtown Phoenix location in 2015 and north Scottsdale last December.

Owner David Najor expects the Mill Avenue location to open in October.

He says he will determine the fate on the original Temple location after seeing how the new one affects it.
