Backyard Taco, an award-winning chain of local taco shops born in a Mesa backyard, has opened its fourth location on Gilbert Road about a quarter-mile south of Germann in southeast Chandler.
Its fast-casual menu offers tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tostadas, gorditas, and loaded potatoes.
Ruben and Maricela Alvarez spent a decade grilling carne asada tacos in their backyard for friends and neighbors before a group of investors helped them launch the first Backyard Taco near Stapley and University in Mesa in 2013.
A second Backyard Taco opened on the northwest corner of Higley and Ray in Gilbert in 2017, followed by another in front of the AMC theaters on the northeast corner of Stapley and Baseline in Mesa in 2018.
A fifth location, in Queen Creek, is in the works for early 2021.
