Helio Basin Brewing in Arcadia is closing after four years in business. Tombstone Brewing from southern Arizona will take over the brewpub on the southwest corner of 40th Street and Thomas in east Phoenix on Friday.
The breweries made the surprise announcement late Monday on social media with Helio Basin blaming the covid-19 pandemic for its closure:
‘‘We did everything from to-go orders, bottled cocktails, school lunches for kids, pick up points for various non-profits and more, bu in the end it was clear that with no definitive answer on when things would return to ‘normal’ that it would involve taking on a lot of debt for an unknown amount of time.’’
Helio Basin owners Mike Conley and Dustin Hazer say they reached out to 4-year-old Tombstone, one of Arizona’s top breweries.
‘‘In deciding to close down, we did not want to simply shutter the space and see it turn into something else,’’ they posted.
Tombstone has posted a job listing for a head brewer at the Phoenix location.
