Glendale burger joint Chzburgr closes after 16 months in business

Chzburgr, an acclaimed chef-driven burger joint on the northwest corner of 49th Avenue and Thunderbird in Glendale, has closed after a little more than a year in business.

Chef-owner Kelly Fletcher made the announcement Monday on social media:

‘‘It is with heavy hearts and broken spirits that we must inform you all of our permanent closing. We, like many small restaurants and businesses, have been devastated by the terrible effects of this pandemic. This decision was not made hastily nor without dozens of conversations and round table meetings.’’

Fletcher, who is perhaps best-known for his 10-year stint at House of Tricks in Tempe, also issued a plea to support local small businesses:

‘‘If I had one wish, just one, I would wish for all of you to focus on all of the small local businesses that you love and frequent them as much as you possibly can. If there’s a restaurant that you think you couldn’t live without in your neighborhood or a small coffee shop or a flower shop, go there, keep them and their families going.’’
