Superstition Meadery officially opens Saturday in downtown Phoenix

Prescott-based Superstition Meadery holds the grand opening what it’s calling the ‘‘world’s first mead and food pairing restaurant’’ Saturday in downtown Phoenix.

It had a soft opening this week in the 92-year-old Jim Ong’s Market building on the northeast corner of Washington and 11th Street.

Superstition, launched by Jennifer and Jeff Herbert in 2012, has produced more than 300 meads, as well as ciders, that have won numerous awards and now are distributed across the country.

The 120-seat restaurant offers a food menu (see menu) ranging from grilled baguettes with roasted garlic for $5 to coffee-crusted dry-aged beef loin for $55. Each item has a recommended mead pairing.

Former Tuck Shop chef Adolfo Heredia heads the kitchen.

A 24-tap bar (see bar menu) features meads, ciders, and Arizona wines, but no beers or cocktails.

Hours are 11 a.m.-11 p.m. daily.
