Southeast Asian kitchen & bar Belly launches in Phoenix

Belly, the long-awaited first restaurant from the Instrumental Hospitality Group, has opened for takeout only on the southeast corner of Camelback and Seventh Avenue in Phoenix.

Who is Instrumental Hospitality: The Southeast Asian kitchen and cocktail bar is led by former Welcome Diner chef Michael Babcock. along with Wayne Coats (Welcome Diner), Robert Cissell (Gallo Blanco), and Paul Waxman (Cobra Arcade Bar).

The space: The two-story building formerly was an auto garage.

Menu highlights: Pan mi ($12, their version of banh mi), braised lamb shank clay pot ($28, pictured), pork and pickled mustard greens fried rice ($12), and crispy white fish ($20).

Hours: Belly only was open for dinner last week, but this week’s hours expand to noon-9 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
