Valley restaurateur & chef Tomaso Maggiore passes away at age 73

Condolences to the family and friends of Tomaso Maggiore, the prolific Valley restaurateur and chef who lost his battle with lung cancer today at age 73.

The Sicilian-born Maggiore launched more than 50 restaurants in Arizona and California, including The Sicilian Butcher, Hash Kitchen, and his 44-year-old flagship Tomaso’s.

“Tomaso was not only my father, but my idol, and his love and passion for the restaurant industry, cooking, and Sicily will continue to live on through our restaurants,” says his son, Joey Maggiore, executive chef of the Scottsdale-based Maggiore Group.

Maggiore’s other child, daughter Melissa Maggiore, will debut a new concept, The Italian Daughter, soon in north Scottsdale.

His family plans to start The Tomaso Maggiore Culinary Education Scholarship in his honor.
