Alamo Drafthouse national chain files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection

By Jess Harter Wednesday, March 3, 2021

Alamo Drafthouse, a Texas-based chain of brewpub theaters, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy today, nearly 10 months after the owner of Alamo’s three Valley franchises filed.

The covid-19 pandemic forced Alamo’s 18 company-owned locations and 23 franchises to close for several months last year. Fewer than half have reopened on a limited basis with social distancing and other precautions.

Founded in Austin, Texas, in 1997, Alamo Drafthouse offers luxury seating with elevated pub food and alcohol, including its own line of beers.

There are three franchise locations in the Valley – Chandler, Gilbert, and Tempe – which filed for bankruptcy last May but currently are open.
