Texas-based Torchy’s Tacos to make Arizona debut in Gilbert

Austin, Texas-based Torchy’s Tacos – a “craft casual” brand that offers tacos, queso, and margaritas – will make its Arizona debut in Gilbert.

It will move into one of three buildings on a currently empty 3.9-acre lot on the northwest corner of Williams Field and Santan Village Parkway next to the SanTan Village shopping center.

Previously, MXSW reported Shimogamo, North Italia, and Flower Child would open on the same corner.

Torchy’s began as a food trailer in 2006. It now has nearly 100 locations in Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas.

A dozen specialty tacos dominate the menu, including:

  • Roscoe: A breakfast taco with waffle, fried chicken, egg, bacon, and maple syrup;
  • Trailer Park: Fried chicken, green chiles, and cheddar jack cheese;
  • Fried Avocado: A veggie taco with fried avocado and refried beans;
  • Brushfire: Jamaican jerk chicken with jalapeños and mango.

The signature menu item, however, is the chile con queso packed with green chiles and topped with guacamole, and served with house-made tortilla chips.

Look for Torchy’s to open late this year or in early 2021.
