Construction begins to turn Arby’s in Gilbert into Valley’s first Eegee’s

Construction has begun on Eegee’s first Valley location, which is taking over the former Arby’s near the southwest corner of Val Vista and Baseline in Gilbert.

The iconic Tucson-based chain announced in October it would open a total of five stores in Gilbert, Mesa, Scottsdale, and Phoenix this year.

Eegee’s hasn’t officially identified the five locations, but also has applied to open a store at Crismon and Hampton in east Mesa.

Although its menu offers grinders, fries, and salads, Eegee’s is best-known for its frozen fruit drinks.

The chain, which unsuccessfully tried to establish a foothold in the Valley in the 1980s, currently has 24 stores in Tucson and one in Casa Grande.
