5 Star Dive Bar & Grill has opened on the southeast corner of McClintock and Baseline in south Tempe, the latest sports bar/pool hall/neighborhood grill to occupy the strip-mall space.
Previous occupants in the past eight years have included The Bench, Scully’s, and Lucky Break.
The signature menu item is the pepper steak sandwich, which comes in five varieties: classic (pictured), hoagie, Italian, Baja, and fried egg.
The rest of chef Ryan McBride’s offerings include burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, loaded fries, salads, and several dinner entrees.
The bar has 32 beers on tap (and 22 more in bottles), specialty cocktails, and a half-dozen wines by the glass.
5 Star is open 11 a.m.-2 a.m. daily.
