State 48 Tap House, the latest spinoff of Surprise-based State 48 Brewery, has opened in Gilbert. It takes over the former Gordon Biersch space at SanTan Village shopping center.

Although it’s State 48’s first foray into the East Valley, it’s the 4-year-old brewery’s sixth Valley location, which also include:

  • State 48 Brewery in downtown Phoenix;
  • State 48 Lager House in Scottsdale;
  • State 48 Funk House in Glendale;
  • State 48 Rock House in north Phoenix.

Like its siblings, State 48 Tap House uses a scratch kitchen to produce elevated ‘‘pub-grub’’ like burgers ($14-$14.50), sandwiches ($12.50-$14.50), and pizzas ($13-$16).

Signature entrees include fish and chips ($16.50), meatloaf with brown ale gravy ($14.50), and schnitzel ($16).

Year-round beers include Lost Dutchman Golden Ale, Mango Wheat, Javelina Hefeweizen, and Van Buren Belgian Blonde.

State 48 Tap House is open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-midnight Friday-Saturday.
