Rula Bula in downtown Tempe to close

Rula Bula Irish Pub, a downtown Tempe mainstay for 20 years, says it has been unable to reach agreement on a new lease with its landlord and will be forced to close at the end of June. Wexford Developments, which bought the building at Mill and Fourth in 2019, says it offered Rula Bula a 10-year lease extension, but not at what it considered a below-market rate the pub had been paying. The current lease expired last June, but Wexford extended it for another year due to the covid-19 pandemic. With negotiations at an impasse, however, Wexford says it now has secured a different tenant for the space.

Acclaimed Taco Boy’s coming to Tempe

Good news for East Valley taco lovers: Taco Boy’s, the small taco shop that’s drawn rave reviews since opening on Roosevelt Row in Phoenix in November 2019, is launching a second location in Tempe. Taco Boy’s has applied for a liquor license for the former ZPizza Tap Room space near the northeast corner of Rural and Apache next to ASU. Its menu offers carne asada, pollo, tripa, cabeza, pastor, and barbacoa in the form of tacos, vampiros, burros, and  quesadillas. No opening date has been announced yet.

3rd Tuesday dinner at Romeo’s Euro Cafe

Romeo’s Euro Cafe in downtown Gilbert will host its monthly ‘‘3rd Tuesday’’ dinner – featuring three new food dishes paired with three wines – at 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday, March 16. See the menu here. Cost is $39 per person plus tax and tip. RSVP: Romeo@EuroCafe.com or 480-962-4224.

Correction: I Heart Mac & Cheese location

Wednesday’s note on the grand opening of I Heart Mac & Cheese in south Tempe had an incorrect crossroad for the Florida-based chain’s first Arizona location. Instead of the northeast corner of Warner and Kyrene, it should have said the northeast corner of Warner and Priest.
