SanTan Brewing closes Phoenix brewpub

SanTan Brewing & Distilling, Arizona’s largest craft brewery, has closed its Phoenix brewpub after three years on the southwest corner of 16th Street and Bethany Home. SanTan was founded in downtown Chandler in 2007 and is one of several East Valley breweries that launched satellite locations in Phoenix in recent years. It also has a satellite location at Sky Harbor, No explanation was given for the Phoenix closure, but Bluewater Grill is rumored to be moving into the space, which was home to Z’Tejas before SanTan.

Maggiore to open Mexican restaurant

Valley restauranteur Joey Maggiore, whose family is best known for their Tomaso’sThe Sicilian Baker, and Hash Kitchen, will step away from his Italian roots to open a Mexican restaurant called The Mexicano this summer. It will take over the former Salty Sow near Cactus and Tatum in Phoenix. It was one of the last projects Maggiore and his father, Tomaso, worked on before the elder Maggiore died earlier this year.

Serrano’s to temporarily close Mondays

Citing the labor shortage that’s plaguing the restaurant industry, Serrano’s Mexican Restaurants announced it temporarily will close on Mondays in addition to Sundays. ‘‘Until we can operate fully staffed, this is the best way for us to maintain our customer-service standards without burning out our existing staff members,’’ according to Serrano’s. Its four current restaurants (Tempe is closed for renovations) have more than 20 unfilled positions. See them here.

Macayo’s to host Family Fun Saturday

Macayo’s Mexican Restaurants is hosting a Family Fun day Saturday at all seven of its Valley locations. In addition to food and drink specials, there will be giveaways and children’s activities like piñata bashings at 2 and 6 p.m. The first 250 guests at each location will receive a free Señor Bob or Señorita Cha Cha ceramic mug.
