Just-opened Hair of the Dog offers Gilbert hangout for people and dogs alike

By Jess Harter Tuesday, April 20, 2021

Hair of the Dog – a canine-welcoming craft beer taphouse, wine bar, and coffeehouse – has opened on the northeast corner of Lindsay and Pecos in Gilbert.

Dogs are allowed not just on the small north-facing patio but throughout the entire interior, which features a mix of lounge-like seating areas and small two-top tables. There are free Hair of the Dog bandanas to dress up Fido, and dog treats are available for purchase.

For humans, there are two dozen craft beers (sorry, no Bud Light or Michelob Ultra) plus a nitro tap for 3- or 16-ounce pours. Odell’s Dog Daze Lager is the unofficial house beer, while all other taps feature rotating selections identified on clipboards hanging above the taps.

Bone-shaped flight holders allow customers to create their own six-beer flights, and several glass cases near the front door offer  canned beers to go.

Wines by the glass and a full range of coffee drinks also are sold.

The trade-off for allowing dogs inside is no kitchen, although there are some prepackaged small bites like nuts, popcorn, chocolate, and jerky.

You also can order from nearby restaurants – New Mexican Grill is next door and The Henhouse Cafe is two doors down – and Hair of the Dog intends to bring in food trucks as well.

For its soft-opening period, doors will open at 2 p.m. weekdays, noon Saturdays, and 10 a.m. Sundays.
