New food truck Rockin Rollz combines live music with lobster rolls & sushi

By Jess Harter Thursday, April 29, 2021

Donny Johnson has been a fixture in the local music scene for two decades, first as the owner of Tempe live-music bar Bigfish Pub and more recently as general manager of the Marquee Theater concert venue.

Now Johnson (pictured above on left with sushi chef Ricky Gonzales) is bringing local music to the Valley’s food scene with the launch of a new food truck called Rockin Rollz Lobster and Sushi.

‘‘We serve made-to-order lobster rolls, lobster tacos, and fresh sushi,’’ Johnson says. ‘‘I have also added a stage to it for live music.’’

The truck celebrates its grand opening from 4-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Jupe’s, a dive bar near the southeast corner of Price and Guadalupe in Mesa.

Jason Devore from Authority Zero will perform from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday. JamNOW will perform Saturday.
