Teddy Roosevelt-inspired lounge Rough Rider to open in downtown Phoenix

Rough Rider, a new restaurant and cocktail bar from the owners of The Whining Pig chain, is coming to Roosevelt Row in downtown Phoenix this summer.

It will be located in the basement of the Ten-O-One building, a former hotel turned office building, on the northeast corner of Central and Roosevelt.

The venue takes its name from Teddy Roosevelt’s famed cavalry unit during the Spanish-American War. It’s a few hundred feet from The Theodore, a 2-year-old craft beer bar that was named for Roosevelt.

Rough Rider’s beverage program will be based on 1862’s β€˜β€˜Bar-Tender’s Guide,’’ the first cocktail book published in the United States.

Chef Jose Morales’s menu will offer dishes with Southern and soul food influences.
