2 Valley chefs to spend summer ‘vacation’ opening new concepts

By Jess Harter Thursday, June 24, 2021

A pair of well-regarded Valley chefs – Rochelle Daniel and Cassie Shortino – will launch small restaurants this summer.

Daniel, chef at Scottsdale’s Fat Ox, will venture north to open her own restaurant, Atria, in historic downtown Flagstaff.

Atria (pictured) will feature house-made pastas, crudo, and an eight-person chef’s table.

Daniel, known for her appearances on Food Network’s “Chopped” and named to the Arizona Culinary Hall of Fame in 2017, will return to Fat Ox this fall.

Shortino, meanwhile, has permanently left Chris Bianco’s gourmet restaurant Tratto in Phoenix to develop her pop-up concept, Shorty’s Charpit.

The signature menu item will be East Coast-style steak sandwiches.
