De Babel, a restaurant specializing in Middle East fare, has opened near the northwest corner of the 101 and Raintree in north Scottsdale.
The food: Chef Suliman Saleem’s menu features hummus, falafel, gyros, shawarma, chicken tawook, lamb kofta, and more.
The owner: Marwan ‘‘M.K.’’ Kandeel, who grew up in Jordan and spent 25 years operating brands like Cinnabon and Five Guys across the Middle East.
Open: 10 a.m.-10 p.m. daily.
