The three Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas in the East Valley soon will have a new name – Majestic Theaters – as the local franchisee cuts ties with the Texas-based chain of dine-in movie theaters.
The background: Craig Paschich, who opened Alamo theaters in south Chandler (2016), south Tempe (2018), and southeast Gilbert (2019), filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May 2020. He then sued Alamo to end their franchise agreement.
The plan: Under an agreement with Alamo, and pending a judge’s approval, the East Valley locations will change their name, but the staffs and operations are expected to remain the same.
The timeline: The brand transition is expected to begin in early September.
