(UPDATE: Howler’s has responded to this post: ‘‘We are not closed permanently and will reopen in the next couple of weeks after remodeling the space and hiring enough staff to make the restaurant run effectively. This will probably be the case with the Chandler location as well.’’)
Valley-based Howler’s Restaurant & Sports Bar has closed its Gilbert Town Square location after just a year in business, but its sister location near Chandler Fashion Center remains open.
No notice: The Gilbert location closed Saturday without warning, and there have been no explanations on the sports bar’s social media accounts. An employee at the Chandler location confirmed the Gilbert one has closed.
Jinxed location? Howler’s debuted in July 2020 in a 6,300-square-foot building on Gilbert Road between Warner and Ray has been home to numerous failed restaurants in the past decade, including Steak & Stone, American Taphouse, BoomBozz Pizza, and Boston’s Gourmet Pizza.
Future locations: Howler’s is owned by Scottsdale-based Group71, which also owns EuroCafe71 in north Scottsdale. Howler’s website lists new locations opening in Scottsdale and Peoria by the end of this year.
