Closed: Teakwoods Tavern & Grill in Gilbert

After giving away countless baskets of free peanuts over 15 years, the last remaining Teakwoods Tavern & Grill on the southeast corner of Gilbert and Williams Field in Gilbert has closed its doors.

The reason: According to a Teakwoods official, ‘‘We are not locked out nor behind on our rent. The lease ended and notice was given. We closed and are cleaning out our space for the property owner to do with as they please.’’

The history: A decade ago, Teakwoods had four Valley locations popular for its free peanuts, tasty burgers and sandwiches, and happy hour specials. Its flagship west Chandler location closed last year after 25 years.

The rumor: Fat Willy’s Family Sports Grill, which has four East Valley locations, will take over the space. This has not been confirmed by Fat Willy’s.
