Friday is National Donut Day, created by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor their members who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.
To celebrate, many Valley doughnut shops will be offering free or discounted deals, including:
Duck Donuts: Visit the Chandler store for a free cinnamon sugar doughnut Friday;
Dunkin’ Donuts: Buy any beverage and get a free doughnut Friday;
Hurts Donut Co.: Every doughnut sold Friday, the Tempe shop will make a donation to the Pat Tillman Foundation. Last year, the chain raised more than $16,000.
Krispy Kreme: Get a free doughnut of your choice Friday – no purchase necessary. Or buy a dozen doughnuts and get a dozen glazed for just $1.
Walmart: Select locations will give away a free glazed doughnut in the bakery section Friday.
