Chandler pastry chef competes in Food Network series opener tonight

Pastry chef Lola Forbes from Spooky’s Swirls, a horror- and sci-fi-themed bakery in Chandler, competes tonight in the Season 8 opener of ‘‘Halloween Baking Championship’’ on the Food Network.

The show: Twelve bakers create spooky or creepy treats for three judges. After several weeks of eliminations, the winning baker will win $25,000. (Check your TV provider for show times.)

The bakery: Spooky’s Swirls, which opened in 2019, offers gluten-free treats, including Death Wish Brownies, Lemon Boo-Berry Scones, and its signature cinnamon buns with Scream Cheese frosting.

Did you know? A section of Spooky’s Swirls’ space on the northeast corner of Alma School and Elliot is devoted to a display of movie props and costumes.
