Nationally renowned Bitter & Twisted Cocktail Parlour in downtown Phoenix has temporarily closed but will reopen Nov. 1 with acclaimed Jamaican restaurant The Breadfruit & Rum Bar taking over its kitchen.
- The owners of the new Moxy hotel being built above Bitter & Twisted have bought out the bar for the rest of the month to speed up construction.
The backstory: Dwayne Allen and wife Danielle Leoni operated The Breadfruit for 12 years in downtown Phoenix before closing in March 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic.
- Word leaked last month that The Breadfruit would take over Bitter & Twisted’s kitchen, but no details were announced.
What to expect: Allen says a casual menu for Bitter & Twisted by new chef Shane Jackson will be a teaser of what to expect when The Breadfruit reopens its own space.
- Offerings will include longtime Breadfruit favorites like Red Stripe curried shrimp (pictured), jerk chicken off the grill, and cinnamon-dusted sweet plantains.
The quote: ‘‘We decided to roll out a tight little menu at Bitter & Twisted to give our longtime fans a taste of that familiar flavor, plus a few new items such as jerk pork, which we never did at The Breadfruit,’’ Allen says.
