First-ever Arizona Craft Beer Awards & Festival take place this weekend

The first-ever Arizona Craft Beer Awards & Festival, presented by the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild and Phoenix Magazine, will take place Friday and Saturday.

The awards: Gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded in 14 style groups at 6:30 p.m. Friday at an invitation-only ceremony at the Arizona Heritage Center in Tempe.

  • In late September, 40 judges got together to evaluate 150 beers entered by 40 breweries.
  • Four Peaks brewer Melissa Osborne and Phoenix home brewer John Rudolph supervised the judging.
  • The awards ceremony will be preceded by a 5 p.m. reception.

The festival: Sample beers from 25 Arizona breweries from 1-5 p.m. Saturday at Heritage at Sportsman’s Park (on the west lawn of the Cardinals Stadium) in Glendale.

  • VIP admission is $80 and includes 20 drink tickets and early entrance at noon.
  • General admission is $50 and includes 15 tickets.
  • Designated driver admission is $20.
