The Green Woodpecker, a new beer hall concept from the founders of Gadzooks Enchiladas & Soup, has opened at Park Central on the west side of Central about a quarter-mile north of Thomas in midtown Phoenix.

Who’s behind it: Phoenix brothers Aaron (pictured) and Jared Pool launched Gadzooks in 2013 and now have four Valley locations.

The space: The 4,500-square-foot site was home to flower and gift shop The Green Woodpecker from 1974-2007. Most recently, it housed a Starbucks, which recently moved to a new space at Park Central.

The beers: The rotating 14-beer tap list is curated by a third Pool brother, Drew, a co-owner of award-winning Wren House Brewing in Phoenix. Canned beers and wines also are available.

The food: Street-style al pastor or vegan maitake mushroom tacos on house-made tortillas, complimentary house-made chips and salsa, and carrot cake from Mama Linda’s Bakeshop, which is owned by the Pools’ mother.

⏰ Open: Noon-10 p.m. daily for soft opening. Hours are scheduled to expand Dec. 19.

📌 Details: 3110 N. Central Ave. #177, Phoenix (map), thegreenwoodpecker.com.
