In a shocking announcement, Cider Corps, Arizona’s largest craft cidery, disclosed it will close its 6-month-old Gilbert taproom and production facility (pictured) on the southeast corner of Gilbert and Warner next Wednesday, Dec. 28.
The quote: ‘‘In the two years since we acquired the Gilbert location, we worked tirelessly to develop the 2.5-acre property into a new space for our Cider Corps community where we could gather and hold new events and festivals,’’ the cidery explained in a social media post. ‘‘Without dwelling on the details, the many challenges and struggles we were navigating came to a head when our landlord died. Now the building has sold.’’
What’s next: Co-owners Josh and Jason Duren will move most of the production equipment back to their original Mesa location, where they still operate a taproom and have acquired an additional 2,000 square feet.
Crowdfunding campaign: The Durens also announced the launch of a crowdfunding campaign to help cover moving costs and needed improvements to the Mesa facility. Contributors can receive benefits like commemorative T-shirts, glasses, and Honor Tiles.
