James Beard Award-winning chef bringing Uchi to Old Town Scottsdale

Uchi, a Texas-based sushi concept from James Beard Award-winning chef Tyson Cole, will make its Arizona debut in the former Bandera space on the northeast corner of Scottsdale and First Avenue in Old Town Scottsdale.

The history: Cole launched Uchi in a small Austin house in 2003 and was named Best Chef Southwest in 2011.

  • Uchi means ‘‘home’’ in Japanese.
  • Uchi has opened additional locations in Dallas, Houston, Denver, and Miami. A Los Angeles location is coming soon.

The menu: Hot and cool tastings, sushi and sashimi, makimono, yakimono, tempura, and a changing omakase based on seasonal items.

Opening: Late 2023.
