Valley brewery releases Black History Month beer & 5 Groundhog Day sours

February is a busy month for Arizona breweries, due in large part to all the activities during Arizona Beer Week, which runs Feb. 16-26.

Newcomer Kitsune Brewing, however, is hitting the ground running.

The north Phoenix brewery, which just launched in October, is holding a Groundhog Day Sour Spectacular on Thursday, releasing five exclusive sour beers:

  • Blue Raspberry Bantha Milk;
  • Passion Fruit;
  • Mango Strawberry;
  • Orange Creamsicle;
  • Peach Guava Lemonade.

Know History: In addition, Tyler Smith, who co-owns Kitsune with his wife, Rebecca, has brewed a limited-time black IPA called Know History in honor of Black History Month.

  • All February, a portion of the proceeds from the IPA will be donated to Black Girls Code, a non-profit that provides technology education for African-American girls.

The quote: “As a black-owned business and the only black-owned brewery in the state, we want to use our position to help,” Smith says. “I want to help break down racial stigmas and serve as a voice for diversity in our industry.”

Open: 3-9 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 2-9 p.m. Friday, noon-9 p.m. Saturday, noon-6 p.m. Sunday. Closed Monday.
