Papago Brewing taproom returns today at new Mesa Riverview location

By Jess Harter Friday, February 3, 2023

Papago Brewing, one of Arizona’s most influential craft beer taprooms until its closure in 2017, begins its second life at 3 p.m. today at Mesa Riverview.

The history: Papago was founded in 2001 as a bottle shop, home-brew supply store, and tasting room in south Scottsdale.

  • It grew into a go-to destination for craft beer aficionados, hosting numerous notable beer events and garnering national recognition.
  • It launched its own line of beers, including its popular flagship Orange Blossom Ale.

New owners: The Papago brand was bought by Tempe-based Huss Brewing, which had been contract-brewing Papago’s beers, in 2016.

  • Huss was launched in 2013 by brewer Jeff Huss and his wife, Leah, who was a co-owner of Papago and its general manager for 14 years.
  • Huss continues to brew a full line of Papago beers, including Orange Blossom Ale.

The new taproom: Papago is reopening in the 2,100-square-foot, 104-seat space formerly home to The Brass Tap, which closed in November.

  • Like The Brass Tap, Papago will have 60 beers on tap, plus packaged beers to go.
  • The tap list will include the return of some past Papago favorites, such as Elsie’s Milk Stout and Hopago IPA, plus many of the Huss beers. See more about the bar offerings.
  • The food menu will focus on paninis, hot dogs, and pizzas. See the menu.

Join the club: Also returning is Papago’s popular Mug Club, whose members get an upgraded mug and happy hour pricing all day every day.

  • You can sign up for the Mug Club until March 31 for $65 per year (see flyer).
  • Happy hour pricing includes $8 Papago and Huss pitchers and $1 off all other in-house pours.
  • For non-club members, happy hour will run 3-6 p.m. weekdays.

Open: 3-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 3-10 p.m. Friday, noon-10 p.m. Saturday, noon-8 p.m. Sunday.

📌 Details: 1033 N. Dobson Road #104, Mesa (map), 480-219-9922, papagobrew.com.
