Bryan’s Black Mountain Barbecue is closing after 14 years in Cave Creek

Award-winning Bryan’s Black Mountain Barbecue, a Cave Creek staple for 14 years, is closing, owner Bryan Dooley announced.

The reason: ‘‘Business is great,’’ Dooley writes on social media. ‘‘Actually this year is starting off very strong. So why are we closing? Well, Donna and I are ready for a change! Life balance! It’s as simple as that! We are still young enough to pursue other interests and we look forward spending much needed quality time together!’’

The background: Dooley spent 13 years as a Scottsdale resort chef before he and his wife launched their pecan-fired smokehouse on Cave Creek’s cowboy-kitschy main drag.

The accolades: Bryan’s has won numerous awards for its barbecue, ranging from its signature pork ribs to creative offerings such as smoked frog legs and ‘‘pulled squash.’’

One last party: Dooley says the business will host a ‘‘going-away party’’ on Saturday, April 22, which is also his birthday.
