Cocina Chiwas, a new concept from the owners of Chiwas Tacos, soft-opens at 5 p.m. today at Culdesac, a car-free neighborhood on Apache, between McClintock and Price, in Tempe.
🌮 The menu: Chihuahuan-style tacos, wood-fired quesadillas, and Mexican pizzas. Full menu still under development.
The owners: Armando Hernandez and Nadia Holguin have award-winning Tacos Chiwas in Phoenix, Chandler, and Mesa. They also are partners in acclaimed Mexican restaurants Bacanora in Phoenix and Espiritu in Mesa.
🚗 The parking: Although Culdesac, which opens this summer, is billed as the first completely carless neighborhood in the U.S., there is a small parking lot for visitors.
⏰ Open: For the soft-opening stage, 5-10 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Closed Sunday-Monday.
