Chic Chef 77, Arizona’s first Black-owned wine bar and bistro that just opened Wednesday in Tempe, was forced to close after an alleged drunk driver ran through its patio and window at 2:25 a.m. Saturday.
The quote: “I feel devastated,’’ owner and chef Nik Fields says. ‘‘I feel severely impacted financially. This is Super Bowl weekend. We opened two days ago, and this was supposed to be a special time for us to open. Not to mention it’s Black History Month. So we had jam-packed events for the entire weekend.’’
🍷 The concept: Located on the southeast corner of Apache and Terrace (map), Chic Chef 77 boasts a 200-bottle wine list and an elevated dinner menu that changes monthly.
What’s next: ‘‘Needless to say we will be closed until further notice,’’ Fields says. ‘‘We’re blessed that there was no casualties and the individual was caught and arrested.’’
