Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, a Memphis-based chain that made its Arizona debut in downtown Mesa in 2021, has opened its third Valley location on 16th Street, about halfway between Indian School and Camelback, in uptown Phoenix.
The food: Hot and spicy chicken sold in individual pieces or as plates. Sides include baked beans, potato salad, fried okra, coleslaw, and seasoned fries. There are five kinds of pie for dessert.
The drinks: Beer is available when dining in.
The chain: Founded in 1984, Gus’s has received numerous honors, including being named the best fried chicken in America by Forbes and one of the 10 best meals in America by GQ.
Other locations: Downtown Mesa and downtown Phoenix. Another is opening soon in the former Keegan’s Grill building on the southwest corner of Ray and 48th Street in Ahwatukee.
