🍺 Simple Machine Brewing, which opened in 2019 near the Deer Valley Airport in north Phoenix, officially unveils a second taproom in downtown Glendale with a weekend-long celebration kicking off at 11 a.m. Friday.
The new space: The century-old building, next to well-known German restaurant Haus Murphy’s near the southeast corner of Glendale and 58th Avenue, once was home to a speakeasy.
- The building was condemned after a car drove into it, causing it to collapse, but Simple Machine was able to salvage much of it, including the pressed-tin ceilings and hand-carved 1930s bar.
- The new taproom quietly soft-opened three weeks ago.
- A portion of the structure, which will be a 200-person music venue called The Venue, isn’t scheduled to open until fall.
Food and drink: Like the Deer Valley taproom, there is no kitchen but customers can bring in food from nearby restaurants.
- The new taproom will feature 15 rotating taps, as well as beer, wine, and cocktails to go.
This weekend’s celebration: Raffle prizes, food trucks, bands, and an air-conditioned tent on its patio.
