Cryin’ Coyote Barbecue opens in former Bryan’s Black Mountain space

🍖 Cryin’ Coyote Barbecue, a family-run business that pays homage to several regional styles, has opened in the recently closed Bryan’s Black Mountain Barbecue building near the northwest corner of Cave Creek and Basin in Cave Creek.

The history: When Bryan and Donna Dooley announced they were closing their 14-year-old barbecue joint, Cave Creek residents Cody and Beth Edgin decided to buy it.

  • The Edgins’ four children, ages 14 to 23, help run the restaurant.

The food: Although the Edgins were able to work with the Dooleys for several weeks before Bryan’s closed in April, they use their own family recipes.

  • Smoked meats include brisket, pulled pork, chicken, sausages, pork spare ribs, and even pulled jackfruit.
  • Sides include Alabama white cole slaw, loaded baked potato salad, chile relleno rice, Dr. P BBQ beans, and esquites (Mexican street corn served in a cup).

The drinks: Soda, sweetened and unsweetened iced tea, beer, and wine.

The hours: 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday -Sunday. Closed Monday-Tuesday.
