A developer wants to build one of Arizona’s first ‘‘food halls‘‘ – a two-story structure that would house as many as 12 new restaurants – in downtown Chandler.
What’s a food hall: More than just a food court, the food hall would house restaurants that a city official says would be ‘‘very unique and local.’’
- The developer points to the Avanti Food & Beverage food halls (pictured) in Denver and Boulder, Colo., as a model for the Chandler project.
Where: The developer has purchased a 0.36-acre lot on the southwest corner of Chicago and Oregon, kitty-corner (to the southwest) from the recent New Square development that includes DC Steakhouse and The Stillery.
- In addition to sharing rent and utilities, restaurants would benefit from hosting communal events like concerts, comedy shows, and movie nights.
Timetable: The developer hopes to break ground in early 2024 and open by the end of the year.
What’s next: The project still must be reviewed by Chandler’s development office and planning and zoning board, then go back to the city council for a final vote.
