Burger concept moving into ex-Breadfruit space in downtown Phoenix

By Jess Harter Wednesday, August 30, 2023

🍔 Bad Jimmy’s, a pop-up burger concept that regularly appears outside the Cobra Arcade Bar, is moving into the former home of Jamaican restaurant The Breadfruit & Rum Bar on the northeast corner of First Avenue and Pierce  in downtown Phoenix.

The history: James Piazza, then chef at eclectic Southwestern restaurant Valentine, launched Bad Jimmy’s during the covid pandemic. His smash burgers featured his own blend of grass-fed brisket and grass-fed beef.

The space: Dwayne Allen and wife Danielle Leoni operated The Breadfruit for 12 years before closing in March 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The timetable: Piazza has not announced an opening date or any details about his plans.

Breadfruit’s future: For the past year, Allen has offered some of The Breadfruit’s menu items at Bitter & Twisted Cocktail Parlour in downtown Phoenix, but will serve his last meals there Saturday.
