🥩🍤 Kona Grill, a Valley-born upscale-casual concept that filed for bankruptcy protection in 2019 but appears to be on the upswing, has opened a new location at Desert Ridge Marketplace in north Phoenix.
It’s located on the west side of the center between Thirsty Lion and Target, and offers a wide-ranging New American menu, plus sushi and craft cocktails.
Founder Paul McDermott opened the first Kona Grill at Scottsdale Fashion Square in 1998. By 2014, the concept had grown to 26 restaurants in 17 states and eventually expanded to Mexico, Canada, and even Dubai.
After filing for Chapter 11 protection in 2019, the chain closed its restaurants at High Street in Phoenix and Chandler Fashion Center, along with many others throughout the country.
Now based in Denver, Kona Grill currently has three locations in the Valley. The others are the original in Scottsdale and another that opened in 2009 at SanTan Village in Gilbert.
