🍖 The Downtown Mesa BBQ Classic, the only Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned competition in Arizona, will take place 5-9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Main and McDonald.
The event includes a one-meat challenge Friday and a four-meat master’s series competition Saturday. A crowd of 5,000 is expected.
‘‘This event is free for spectators, and we encourage the community to come out and enjoy great barbecue while the teams battle it out for the grand prize,’’ says Nancy Hormann, president of the Downtown Mesa Association.
On Saturday, the public can participate in judging the pitmasters and food trucks by purchasing a people’s choice ticket ($20 in advance or $30 at the event) good for 10 two-ounce samples. You can buy sampling tickets here.
In addition, the BBQ Classic will have art exhibits, live music, a beer garden, culinary art, and cooking demonstrations.
