Pizzicata brings authentic Napoli pizza & pinsa to northeast Mesa

By Jess Harter Thursday, November 9, 2023

🍕 Pizzicata, a small, family-owned pizzeria in Carefree, has launched a second location at Painted Mountain Golf Course on the northeast corner of Recker and McKellips in northeast Mesa.

Owner Federico Venturini and his wife, chef Viola Tagliaferri, moved from Umbria, Italy, to the United States in 2018.

Their specialties are wood-fired Napoli-style pizzas and pinsa, the latter a type of Roman-style oval pizza (pictured) with an airy dough made with a combination of wheat, soy, and rice flour.

The Carefree location, which opened in 2019, is only the fifth U.S. restaurant to be officially certified as an authentic Italian pinsaria.

Pizzicata’s wood-fired oven, imported from Italy, is surrounded by a 20-seat full bar.
