Thundercat Lounge retro dance club opens today in downtown Phoenix

Thundercat Lounge, a 1980s- and ’90s-inspired dance club from the creators of the Thunderbird Lounge, opens today on the southeast corner of Van Buren and Ninth Avenue in downtown Phoenix.

What clubgoers will find in the refurbished Art Deco building originally designed in 1938:

  • Entry via a ‘‘Star Wars’’ light tunnel;
  • A main room reminiscent of a ’90s mall food court;
  • A dance floor, video wall, VIP booths, and bottle service;
  • A full bar with cocktails named after ’80s and ’90s references;
  • A 200-person dog-friendly patio with hot pink AstroTurf;
  • No kitchen, but food trucks will be brought in;
  • A private ‘‘Blade Runner’’-style karaoke room in the basement.

Despite Thundercat’s retro theme, the music mostly will be modern, including EDM, techno, and house. See the nightly show schedule.
